I have to admit, a few years ago, I wasn’t even sure what a Cricut was.

I thought it was mostly for craft projects, so I couldn’t really justify the expense. But now that I know all the things you can use it for, it’s one of my favorite decorating tools!

My road to getting a Cricut started when I wanted to created this DIY ceiling medallion for my den.

The design is pretty intricate and I knew there was no way I would have the patience to cut it out by hand.

So I went on a hunt for a way to take a design on my computer and have it cut from a piece of mat board.

Which is how I came to decide that I needed a cutting machine.

I wasn’t sure if I would get enough use out of it to justify the price. But I really wanted that ceiling medallion, so I went for it.

After trying out another machine, I finally settled on the Cricut Explore Air™ 2*. And I love it!

It makes cutting (and drawing) custom patterns, signs or images from your computerso easy.

Now that I’ve found out how much fun it is to use, I’m on another hunt: To find more awesome home decor ideas that are easy to make with a Cricut machine.

Keep reading to find all the Cricut project ideas I’ve found (and links to the tutorials so you can make them yourself).

I have to say that making custom stencils is one of my favorite Cricut decor projects.

The stencil material* is inexpensive, so if you mess up the first time, it doesn’t cost very much to do it again.

It’s also fairly easy to cut, which means the chances of messing up the first time are much lower.

And you can make exactly the pattern you want. Like I did for my Scalamandre-inspired zebra stencil or the gold dot copycat “wallpaper” my mother did in her living room.

There is no way I would have been able to pull this stencil pattern off without my Cricut.

It also saved me a bunch of money not having to buy really expensive wallpaper.

So the Cricut more than paid for itself in this one project!

2 | Kitchen Towels

Thesekitchen towel designs from Amy at My Life From Homelook just like the ones you see in those expensive kitchen stores.

But they are actually really easy to make (even for beginners) with a Cricut machine and some heat transfer vinyl.

Amy used a Silhouette machine for her project, but the Cricut Explore would do this decor project just as easily.

3 | Bathroom organization Labels

The Cricut Explore Air 2 is also really good at drawing and cutting letters.

The Cricut Design Space app* (that they provide for creating patterns) comes with a ton of built-in lettering styles and fonts. Which means you can cut pretty much any style of words or letters that you want to.

Like the prettymedicine cabinet organization labels*(above) that are cut from adhesive vinyl.

4 | Kitchen organization labels

Of course, bathrooms aren’t the only place that labels are useful.

You can use your Cricut to get your kitchen organized, too.

These spice jar labels*.

Or these kitchen cannister labels*.

The possibilities are endless! And they’re all definitely a step above your standard label maker look.

5 | Custom throw Pillows

Combining cut letters with iron on transfer means you can come up with all kinds of cushion designs.

Pillow covers (like this Home Sweet Home one*) are another home decor item that seem to cost a lot more if you buy them already made, but are really inexpensive to do for yourself.

Of course, you know I like anything with a bit of shine, like this pillow with silver metallic iron on vinyl.

That’s the other great thing about creating your own designs…you get to pick the fonts, colors and sparkles. So you can make them look exactly the way you want them to.

6 | Wall art

I haven’t done much drawing with my Cricut yet, but I’m dying to try out something like this water color picture*.

It’s an inexpensive way to create some pretty wall decor.

Or if you don’t want to fiddle with all the pens, try out this rose art* that is made from layers of different colored paper.

It’s such a cool (but inexpensive) way to add some custom artwork to any room.

7 | Customized frames

Or if you already have the picture, you can customize a frame to go with it.

This forever frame* uses adhesive vinyl to add a decorative touch to a plain frame.

And if you don’t need it for yourself, it would make a great gift for a wedding shower.

8 | Wooden signs

This Gather signthat I made for my fall home tour was the first text design I tried with my Cricut.

I created the design in Photoshop and then imported it into the Cricut Design Space™ app! But you can also create them directly in the app if Photoshop isn’t your thing.

Other than waiting for the paint to dry, the whole thing took less than an hour to make.

Of course, if you don’t feel like creating a design yourself, Cricut also provides some already-created patterns you can use, like this “Magic of Winter” sign.

9 | Clocks

Now it’s time to get really creative (no pun intended).

How pretty is this clock*?

It’s made out of many layers of card stock paper. So you can customize the color to whatever fits with your decor.

Definitely a creative Cricut project idea!

10 | Light fixtures

If you have some patience (and time), you can step up your Cricut home decor game and make this mid century modern light fixture*.

It uses chipboard, vellum and cardstock to create the look. And requires quite a bit of cutting and folding.

But how cool is the finished product?

11 | Ceiling Medallion

Of course, I can’t forget the project that started the whole journey for me…the one that made me buy the Cricut Explore Air™ 2* in the first place.

The ceiling medallion from my den / downstairs home office makeoveris still one of my favorite DIY projects.

It is also one of the upgrades I’ve done to my house that gets the most comments from people once they find out if is home made.

Well, that’s my list of Cricut Explore decor projects so far. Hopefully, you’ve found some inspiration to make your own.

Next one my list? To get the Cricut Maker which can cut fabric.
