Valentines Class Book

Children dictate the rest of the sentence: “I love ___” and draw a picture to illustrate. To make our class books, I use “presentation book covers” from an office supply store or Walmart. It has a sturdy plastic cover with a clear insert, and the pages are also clear inserts. I just slip in a page for the front cover, and slip in the children’s pages inside. These can be reused. Use this free printable template for the pages of your book.

Pre-K & Preschool Theme Ideas for Learning about Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day is a popular holiday celebrated on February 14th each year. It is often associated with love, friendship, and exchanging cards and gifts. Pre-K and preschool teachers can incorporate Valentine's Day into their curriculum by introducing various activities and themes related to the holiday. Some common ideas for Valentine's Day themes in Pre-K and preschool include:

  1. Books: Reading books about Valentine's Day can help children learn about the holiday and its traditions. There are many children's books available that focus on themes of love, friendship, and kindness. Some examples include "The Day It Rained Hearts" by Felicia Bond and "Love from The Very Hungry Caterpillar" by Eric Carle.

  2. Valentine Art Activities: Engaging children in art activities can be a fun way to celebrate Valentine's Day. Some art ideas include creating Valentine mailbags or mailboxes for children to decorate, making tissue hearts by painting over red and pink tissue paper squares on a traced heart, and painting doily hearts using liquid watercolor and Q-tips.

  3. Valentine Literacy Activities: Valentine's Day can be an opportunity to incorporate literacy activities into the curriculum. Children can make their own Valentine cards for family or friends using printable cards. They can also use dot markers to stamp Valentine cards or decorate them with colorful sequins or heart stickers. Another activity is creating a Valentine class book where children dictate sentences like "I love ___" and draw pictures to illustrate.

  4. Valentine Math Activities: Math activities can be incorporated into Valentine's Day themes as well. Some ideas include using grid games to practice counting and one-to-one correspondence, playing roll and cover games to practice counting and numeral recognition, and using heart-shaped paper punches for sorting, patterns, and counting activities.

  5. Valentine Cooking Activities: Cooking activities can be a fun way to engage children in learning about Valentine's Day. For example, children can make their own Queen of Hearts tarts by mixing cream cheese or white icing with strawberry preserves and spreading the mixture onto vanilla wafers. They can also add red hots for decoration.

These are just a few ideas for incorporating Valentine's Day themes into Pre-K and preschool activities. Teachers can adapt and modify these ideas based on the age and interests of the children they are working with.
