Keokuk Police Department (2024)

The Keokuk Police Department reports the following incidents from Wednesday, May 28 through Friday, May 31.

Arrests and Citations

On Friday, at 4:45 p.m., Shawn Michael Schelby, 42, of Carthage, Ill., was arrested at the Keokuk Police Department for Theft 3rd Degree, and Aggravated Misdemeanor. This stems from a report of theft at Farm and Home at 2028 Main St. on May 27. Schelby was cited and released.

On Friday, at 8:23 p.m., officers were dispatched to Walmart at 300 N. Park Drive for an individual trespassing. Cole Michael Geltz, 27, of Keokuk, was arrested for trespassing, a Simple Misdemeanor. Geltz was cited and released.

On Friday, at 9:20 p.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop in the 1400 block of Main St. Scott Gene Skeens, 48, of Hamilton Ill., was arrested for Possession of Marijuana, a Serious Misdemeanor. Skeens was also cited for No Valid Driver’s License and Operation Without Registration Card of Plate. Skeens was cited and released.

On Saturday, at 8:02 p.m., officers were dispatched to Kiser Park at 1320 Palean St. for a disturbance. Thomas Joseph Trent, 42, of Keokuk, was arrested for Violation of a No Contact Order, a Simple Misdemeanor. Trent was held in jail. Desiree Kristina Stinson, 31, of Keokuk, was arrested for Violation of a No Contact Order, a Simple Misdemeanor, and Possession of Methamphetamine 3rd or Subsequent Offense, a Class D Felony. Stinson was held in jail.

On Sunday, at 12:04 a.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop in the 1200 block of Timea St. Grady Evan Fountain, 31, of Keokuk, was arrested for Driving While License Revoked, a Serious Misdemeanor. Fountain was taken to the Lee County Jail.

On Sunday, at 2:05 a.m., officers were dispatched to The Bar at 914 Main St. for a disturbance. Quincy Lee McCane, 21, of Keokuk, was arrested for Public Intoxication, a Simple Misdemeanor. McCane was held in jail.

On Sunday, at 7:06 p.m., Margaret Meilin Lum, 64, of Nauvoo, Ill., was arrested at the Keokuk Police Department for Theft 3rd Degree, an Aggravated Misdemeanor. This stems form a report of theft at Walmart at 300 N. Park Drive on May 24. Lum was cited and released.

On Sunday, at 7:38 p.m., officers were dispatched to Seven Seas Coin Laundry at 1120 Johnson St. for an intoxicated individual. Steven Michael Busch, 63, was arrested for Public Intoxication, a Simple Misdemeanor. Busch was held in jail.

ACCIDENTS

On Wednesday, at 3:59 p.m., Cody Lantz Mueller, 45, of Keokuk, driving a 2010 Kawasaki motorcycle, traveling north in the 500 block of 11th. St. A 16-year-old female, of Keokuk, driving a 1999 Cadillac Seville, was traveling west in the 1000 block of Franklin St. Both entered the uncontrolled intersection at N. 11th/Franklin streets at the same time. The Cadillac struck Mueller on the right side, causing the motorcycle to wreck and Mueller to be thrown off the motorcycle. Mueller suffered a lower leg injury and was transported by helicopter to Iowa City. His motorcycle suffered damage to the right side and handlebars and side mirrors, and it was removed from the scene by a private party. The teen was uninjured, her vehicle suffered minor damage to the right side and was driven away from the scene. The time of day was evening, the weather was clear and there were no obstructions in the roadway that contributed to the collision. The intersection was uncontrolled, making it difficult to both vehicles to stop in an assured distance. No improper actions were found by either driver due to the intersection.

On Thursday, at 11:24 a.m., Haedon Graceanne Nichols, 22, of Springfield, Mo., driving a 2015 Kia Forte, was parked facing north. Tina Ann Daniels, 43, of Oelwein, Iowa, driving a 2019 Kia Forte FE, was traveling west in the parking lot of Victory Park on Water St. Nichols began backing and did not see the Daniels vehicle driving behind, causing a collision. No injuries were reported. The passenger side of the Daniels vehicle suffered moderate damage and the door could not be opened. The rear passenger side bumper of the Nichols vehicle suffered a small dent and some paint exchange. The weather was clear and the road surface was dry. There were no other vehicles or objects that contributed to the conditions of the collision.

On Friday, at 11:18 a.m., Cynthia Inez Mason, 63, of Keokuk, driving a 2018 Jeep Cherokee, was eastbound in the 2400 block of Main St. when a deer ran southbound across Main St., where it was struck by the vehicle. The vehicle suffered minor damage to the driver’s side front end and was driven from the scene.

On Friday, at 7:26 p.m., Kelsey Marie Mendenhall, 35, of Keokuk, driving a 2002 Ford Focus, was traveling south through the intersection of 13th St. and Main St. after receiving the green light. Jazlynn Kay Marie Huston, 18, of Hamilton, Ill., driving a 2011 Subaru Outback, was traveling eastbound, failed to stop at the red light and continued to travel through the intersection. The Huston vehicle struck the Mendenhall vehicle causing it to spin out.

Calls for Service

There were three calls for service on Friday: at 11:18 a.m. for an accident in the 2400 block of Main St.; at 5:53 p.m. for larceny/theft at 912 Main St.; and at 7:25 p.m. for an accident with injury at N. 13th St./Main St.

There were two calls for service on Saturday: at 3:40 a.m. for burglary at 1120 Orleans Ave.; and at 5:55 p.m. for an accident at 1222 Johnson St.

There were six calls for service on Sunday: at 7:30 a.m. for larceny/theft at 1120 Orleans Ave.; at 7:51 a.m. for a gas odor at 2815-13 Lincoln Ave.; at 1:23 p.m. for burglary at 417 Johnson St.; at 6:28 p.m. for an accident in the 1500 block of Stripe St.; at 8:08 p.m. for larceny/theft at 300 N. Park Drive; and at 9:16 p.m. for an accident in the 3800 block of Main St.
