Crochet toys are a great way to create a safe and unique toy for your children or yourself. On the web, you will find plenty of different crochet amigurumi. To create a toy, we crochet different parts and then join them into a complete stuffed toy.

Sometimes, the parts that we need to sew to achieve the final look can be overwhelming and the project you are working on can end up in your WIP pile.

To avoid that the amigurumi designers come up with a method that saves you the trouble of sewing parts. How cool, right?

For the crochet turtle pattern, we will use exactly the no-sew technique. Last December we already, shared a few low-sew and no-sew amigurumi patterns that you can make in a day.

The No-Sew bunny is a complete no-sew! This means you will have not even one part to sew after you finish crocheting your bunny. And the Low-Sew Bear pattern will give you a cute critter to cuddle around with.

Crochet Amigurumi Along

The crochet turtle pattern is part of this year’s crochet along. Last year, we hosted a crochet gnome along and we had a gorgeous year with all the gnomes we made!

This year other than the extended version of the gnome along we are hosting a crochet amigurumi along. Therefore, we will share a new amigurumi pattern with you each month!

What yarn to use for a crochet turtle plush?

This free crochet turtle pattern is made using plush velvet yarn. It is soft and chunky which makes the crochet easy and fast. But for a complete beginner it could be hard to see the stitches. This can lead to misplaced or missed stitches. Moreover, it will misshape your toy!

With beginners in mind and people who don’t like working with plush yarn, I made a turtle with chunky weight yarn as well. This will show you how it will look if worked with different yarn other than plush yarn.

In conclusion, you can use whatever yarn you have in your stash. Keep in mind that if you use thinner yarn you will have smaller crochet turtle. With chunky or super chunky yarn you will have bigger crochet turtle.

As an expert in crochet and amigurumi, I can provide you with information related to the concepts used in this article. Crochet is a craft technique that involves using a hook and yarn to create various items, including stuffed toys like amigurumi. Amigurumi refers to the art of crocheting or knitting small, stuffed animals or creatures.

No-Sew Technique in Crochet

The article mentions the "no-sew technique" in crochet, which is a method that eliminates the need for sewing different parts together to achieve the final look of an amigurumi toy. This technique is beneficial as it saves time and effort, especially for those who find sewing parts overwhelming. Instead of sewing, the parts are joined together as you crochet along.

Crochet Along

The article also mentions a "crochet along," which is an event where crocheters come together to work on the same project or follow a specific pattern. It's a way to create a sense of community and support among crocheters. In this particular case, the crochet along focuses on creating different amigurumi patterns each month.

Yarn Choices for Crochet Turtle Plush

The article discusses which types of yarn to use for crocheting a turtle plush toy. Specifically, it mentions using plush velvet yarn, which is soft and chunky, making the crochet process easy and fast. However, for beginners or those who prefer working with different yarn, the article suggests using chunky weight yarn instead. The choice of yarn will affect the size and appearance of the crochet turtle.

Crochet Pattern Instructions

The article provides a free crochet turtle pattern, including step-by-step instructions for creating the different parts of the turtle, such as the body, head, and fins. The pattern is written in US crochet terminology and uses abbreviations such as SC (single crochet), SS (slip stitch), CH (chain), Inc (increase), and Dec (decrease). The pattern instructs crocheters to work in continuous rounds without joining them.

Color Variations

The article mentions different color variations for the turtle pattern, such as a sunflower turtle and a watermelon turtle. It provides a color chart for the watermelon turtle, indicating the specific rounds and colors to use.

Materials Needed

The article lists the materials needed to crochet the turtle, including super bulky weight yarn, chenille/velvet yarn, a crochet hook size 4 mm, poly fiber fill for stuffing, a tapestry needle, and safety eyes.

Additional Resources

The article offers additional resources for crocheters, such as the option to purchase an ad-free, printable PDF pattern from their Ravelry or Etsy shop. It also invites readers to join a Facebook group and share their projects made using the patterns provided.

I hope this information helps you understand the concepts and instructions mentioned in the article. If you have any specific questions or need further assistance, feel free to ask!
